The Across Mongolia Tour is an exciting and comprehensive trip that covers most parts and regions of Mongolia, making it the most recommended tour for those who want to explore the country. Day 1. Arrival Day.

You will be transferred to your hotel and, in the afternoon, you will go on a city tour. The city tour includes visits to some of the most popular attractions in Ulaanbaatar, such as Sukhbaatar Square, National Historical Museum Gandan Monastery, Zaisan Hill, and a Traditional Cultural Show. You will also enjoy dinner at a restaurant and spend the night in your hotel.

Day 2. UB – Hustai National Park – Kharkhorin town

We will travel from Ulaanbaatar to Hustai National Park, which is famous for its wildlife such as elk, marmot wolf, different types of birds, and wild horses, including the Takhi (Prezhewalski Horse). In the afternoon, you will move on to the ancient Mongolian Capital called Kharkhorum (Kharkhorin in modern language) and see the Erdene-Zuu monastery, one of the most famous monasteries from the Middle Ages, and the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape. You will spend the night in a camp.

Day 3. Ongi Monastery

Travel to Ongi monastery and the Ongi River Valley memorial site. The Monastery was established by Khutagt lama Ishdonilkhundev and his student Damtsagdorj, and there were 28 temples and approximately one thousand lamas living in the monastery. A large number of ruins, including a tall stupa, can be seen on the river and in the surrounding hills. It has a commemorative plaque indicating the names of the monks who were killed in 1939. There is also an ancient “Shaazan City” ruin, which was the craftsmen city of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) near the Ongiyn Khiid monastery. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 4. Bayanzag (Flaming Cliff)

Travel to see dinosaur signs in Bayanzag, where the first dinosaur eggs were found by Roy Chapman Andrews, a paleontologist from the USA in 1924. We will also see the enchanting sunset in the Gobi and capture great photos. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 5. Khongoryin Sand Dunes

Start our trip to Khongoryin Sand Dunes, the biggest dune in Mongolia. Here you will recognize how the Mongolian Gobi is big, wide, and empty. Although the road type is kind of hard, our 4WD Cruisers will easily overcome it. Spend the night in a ger.

Day 6. Khongor Sand Dunes-Rest day

You can challenge yourself by climbing the Singing Dune (Duut Mankhan) of Khongoryin Sand dunes. At the top of the dunes, you can find peace and hear the voice of singing sand in the wind, making it a suitable place to meditate. Spend the night in a ger.

Day 7. Bayangobi Soum

Today we’ll explore Bayngobi soum of Bayankhongor province. The Bayangobi village is located in front of Ikh Bogd and Jaran Bogd mountains. There are other mountains named Arts Bogd and Baga Bogd on the east side, which are the end of the Gobi Altay Mountain Range. The Ikh Bogd is the highest peak of the Altay Mountain range measuring 3957m above sea level. You will see these beautiful high mountains on the way to Bayangobi village and camp nearby. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 8. Bayan-Undur soum

Travel to Bayan-Undur soum of Bayankhongor province. Here, you will see some natural incredible creations, such as the caves called Chihen (Ear) and Ikh (Great) caves in Chikhen Mountain. The cave is 9.5 meters deep, 5 meters wide, and 2 meters high. Since 1995, the joint Expedition of Mongolia and Russia has been researching the cave and found numerous fossils belonging to the Stone Age and the sign of a human being. Scientists confirmed that there are 4 layers of human signs from different periods. Another old monastery named Amarbuyant was founded in 1697 and is close to the village. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 9. Eej Khairkhan Mountain.

Travel to Eej Khairkhan mountain of Gobi Altay province, which is a lonely mountain in the steppe with giant rocks and lies in the depression surrounded by sandy areas. It’s famous for its incredibly shaped rocks and caves and unexplained tales by local people. There are some rare animals listed in a red book of Mongolia such as Argali sheep, ibex, and snow leopard. The mountain was protected in 1992 and preserved as a National Park. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 10. Bugat soum

Travel through the wide steppe in Bugat soum of Gobi Altai province and spend the night in a tent.

Day 11. Togrog Soum-Tonhil Soum-Sutay mountain

Drive to Sutay Mountain. The Sutai Khairkhan mountain is a beautiful eternal snow-capped mountain that lies in the areas of Tonhil, Darvi, and Zereg soums for around 60 km. The highest peak Tsast Bogd is 4234 meters above sea level. There is an Ikh Ovoo (idol of Mongolians) at the hillside of Sutai that is protected by the state as a holy idol and then proved to make an offering ceremony annually. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 12. Mankhan soum.

Today we’ll explore the historical site of Khoit Tsenkheryin Cave. This extraordinary cave is one of the largest in Mongolia and is famous for its unique rock art, making it a popular tourist destination for both domestic and international travelers. Created by grey carbonate rocks, the cave stands at an impressive 20 meters high and offers a glimpse into the fascinating history of the region. You’ll be able to explore the numerous signs of human activity found within the cave, including fire spots, wall paintings, and rock scripts, some of which date back to 40 thousand years ago. The Khoit Tsenkheriyn Cave was registered in the World Heritage of Culture in 1996, and you’ll have the opportunity to spend the night in a camp in this remarkable location.

Day 13. Khovd City

Head to Khovd City, one of the oldest cities in Mongolia, with a history spanning over 240 years. The city is famous for its ancient Cottonwood trees, which are over 200 years old, as well as its fresh watermelon. Khovd City is also renowned for its diverse population, with 17 different tribes living in the region, each with their unique traditional culture and dressings. You’ll have the chance to learn about their fascinating heritage and explore the art and dance that is an integral part of traditional Mongolian culture. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 14. Dorgon soum – Khar Lake

Drive to Khar Lake via the village of Dorgon. Khar Lake is one of the largest lakes in Mongolia, with an impressive size of 26 km wide, 72 km long, and 1153 square km in area. The surrounding area of the lake is home to a variety of nature zones, including desert steppe and semi-desert. Despite its smaller size, Khar Lake boasts over 10 islands, with the largest measuring around 30 km long and 272 meters above the lake surface, known as Agshab. We’ll spend the night in a tent.

 Day 15. Khyargas Lake 

We’ll travel to Khetsuu Khad of Khyargas Lake, where you’ll find the Hetsuu Khad, one of the most attractive sights in Uvs Province. This 20 meters high cliff stretches for 7 km, and some parts of the cliffs are separated from the bank like an island, which serves as a comfortable nesting ground for birds. If you’re interested in birds and their life, this is the perfect place for you to learn more about them. The lake is also home to a variety of fish species like Grayling, bigmouth Osman, and yellow Bass. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 16. Songino.

We are traveling to Songino soum of Zawkhan province, where we’ll spend the night in tent.

Day 17. Shine-Ider

We’ll travel to Shine-Ider soum of Khovsgol province, a mountainous region covered in forest. We’ll also spend the night in tent.

Day 18. Uushgiin Uvur

Visit the Uushgiyn Uvur complex deer stone and Khirgisuur cultural site located 18 km west of the Moron center of Khovsgol province. Here, you’ll find about 30 deer stones with highly stylized and sophisticated depictions of deer, with the background treated with dark red ochre. You’ll also see depictions of hunters’ weapons, such as a knife, arch and arrow, mirror, and shield. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 19. Khovsgol Lake

Travel to Khovsgol Lake National Park, well known for its crystal clear Khovsgol Lake, which is the second largest freshwater lake in the world and contains around 1 percent of the world’s freshwater. The lake is 136 km long and about 40 km wide and surrounded by beautiful larch and pine trees. You’ll also have the opportunity to take a picture with reindeer and yaks, explore tourist camps, and enjoy a variety of activities on offer, including horse riding, jet boating, hiking, visiting nomads’ families, swimming, and tasting traditional foods. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 20. Khovsgol Lake-Rest day

Rest at the camp all day and manage your day as you wish, with plenty of things to do, including the activities mentioned above. Spend the night in the camp.

Day 21. Khutag-Undur soum

Today we are driving to Khutag-Undur soum of Bulgan Province for 340 km by paved road, where we’ll spend the night in a tent.

Day 22. Amarbayasgalant Monastery

Visit the Amarbaysgalant monastery, built in the early 18th Century and dedicated to St. Zanabazar, the first Bogd of Mongolia. The monastery was once home to over 6000 monks living in 50 temples but was destroyed by communists during the Great Revolution in the 1930s. In 1944, the monastery was protected by the state and rebuilt, and you’ll have the opportunity to explore this remarkable site. Spend the night in the tent.

Day 23. Ulaanbaatar

Finally, we’ll travel back to Ulaanbaatar early in the morning and arrive in the afternoon, where you can go shopping to buy some cashmere and souvenirs. Mongolian cashmere products are highly sought after in the world market for their quality and price. You’ll spend the night in a hotel.

Day 24. Departure 

You’ll transfer to the airport, concluding your unforgettable Around Mongolia Tour.
