Ikh Gazriin Chuluu is located in the Gobi-Ugtaal and Bayanjargalan regions of Dundgobi Province. It is the largest in the Great Granite Region of Mongolia. In 2003, 35,000 hectares of land were taken under special state protection to preserve the pointed cliffs’ natural beauty and geographical features. It is situated 80 km southeast of Mandalgobi city, spanning 30 km from north to south and 15 km from east to west, covering an area of over 300 sq km. The highest point is Yerlug mountain, which stands at 1706 meters high.
The granite cliffs of the region are pink in color and composed of coarse crystals, with various cracks such as longitudinal, vertical, transverse, etc. They appear arranged in alleys to the back and front, and to the right and left. There are more than 40 separate caves in the Ulziit and Sumber mountain regions of the eastern part of the Great Land Stone, such as Toonot, Aguit, Ehiin Umai, and Rashaant. The caves can be visited by hiking since the terrain is less rough and they are close to each other.
In the area, there are rocks with many strange formations, such as Uvgunt, Senjit rock, Gua Ulgii, Unaa rock, Boov rock, Lord of Lus, King and Queen rock, and Fish mouth rock. There is a memorial monument dedicated to Namjilin Norovbanzada, a famous long singer, on the southwest edge.
The Ikh Gazriin Chuluu is located in the Govi region, one of Mongolia’s main tourist routes. It is situated about 70 kilometers from the main road that connects Ulaanbaatar to Dalanzadgad. Every year, a large number of foreign tourists visit this place to witness the unique beauty of the Gobi region. New, comfortable tourist ger camps like Tov Borjigon have been built to accommodate the tourists.
