The Eagle Festival Tour in Ulgii is an exciting and popular event that takes place in Mongolia every year. Known for its impressive eagle hunting demonstrations, this festival attracts many tourists from all over the world. There are three types of eagle festivals in Mongolia, but the one held in Ulgii City is considered the largest and most significant. This festival takes place in the first week of October every year and features over 400 eagle hunters from around the Bayan-Ulgii province who come to participate in the event. The Eagle Festival is not the only attraction of this tour; there are several other exciting activities that take place during the trip.
Day 1. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar.
The tour begins with a city tour of Ulaanbaatar, which includes visits to the Sukhbaatar Square, the National Historical Museum, Gandan Monastery, Bogd Khan’s Winter Palace Museum, Zaisan Hill, and a traditional historical show in the evening.
Day 2. Fly to Ulgii.
Fly to Ulgii City, the center of the Bayan-Ulgii province. The flight is followed by a pick-up by a driver who take us to a ger camp near the city, where we spend the night.
Day 3. First day of the Eagle Hunters Festival.
The third day of the tour is the first day of the Eagle Hunters Festival, which is the main event of the tour. The festival features eagle hunting demonstrations and competitions, traditional horseback riding competitions, and other exciting traditional activities.
Day 4. Second day of the Eagle Festival.
The second day of the festival is also packed with interesting activities. After lunch, the tourists visit the black market and some shops to buy some food for the next few days.
Day 5. Altay Tavan Bogd National Park.
Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. In the late afternoon, we’ll reach the main gate for the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. There are some gers for rent at the gate. But sometimes it’s not sufficient for all tourists, so then we may have to sleep in our tents. Our guide will cook for us here. Overnight in a tent.
Day 6. Horseback Riding and climbing Malchin Peak.
The next day, we have horseback riding to the base camp with the horse guide leading. After lunch, we climb one of the five peaks of the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain called Malchin, which is a challenging but rewarding experience. The weather conditions can change rapidly, so you need to be ready for any challenges. Overnight in a tent.
Day 7 . Ulaankhus soum- Eagle Hunters Family
After breakfast, we ride back to the gate and return to Ulgii. On the way to Ulgii, we’ll sleep in Ulaankhus soum on the way to visit Eagle Hunter’s family. Overnight in ger.
Day 8. Ulgii-Ulaanbaatar/flight/
Drive from Ulaankhus to Ulgii, it’s about 45km and takes 1-2 hours. Before the flight, we’ll have lunch in the restaurant in Ulgii. The flight is usually in the afternoon. In the late afternoon, our driver will pick you up from the airport in UB and transfer you to the hotel to leave your stuff and get ready for dinner. Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 9. Departure.
You are transferred to the airport for your departure.
