The Central Dinosaur Museum in Ulaanbaatar was established on January 12, 2013, by the 11th decision of the Government of Mongolia. It commenced its operation with an official exhibition. The working group’s decision to display Tarbosaurus Bataar as the first exhibit of the newly established museum at Sukhbaatar Square was successful, and the “I’m Home” temporary exhibition held for three months, starting from June 8, 2013, set a new revenue record.
From October 5, 2013, to May 27, 2014, the DarkhanUul Museum held a traveling exhibition called “T. Bataar in Darkhan.” Since then, the museum has been conducting a temporary exhibition named “T. Bataar and Spectacular Finds,” along with continuous educational programs and courses for the public. The programs, such as “Tarbosaurus Bataar,” and “T. Bataar‘s Adventure” bus tour, were implemented in collaboration with the Mongolia-Japan Human Resources Development Center, “Dudu” Education Foundation, and elementary schools. These courses provide basic knowledge of paleontology, dinosaur species, and natural ecology education to participants, developing their drawing, coloring, imagining, and self-expression skills in young students, along with fostering the spirit of loving and protecting the valuable cultural heritage of their country.
Dinosaur Species Found
In 2015, the Dinosaur Museum in Ulaanbaatar displayed a temporary exhibition called “Through the Trace of Dinosaurs,” showcasing a selection of finds from the United States. The exhibition presented fossils of many species of dinosaurs that lived in the territory of Mongolia several million years ago, such as Ankylosaurus, Hadrosaurus, Saurolophus, Protoceratops, Oviraptor, Ornithomimosaurus, and fossils of ancient turtles, arranged in a simple and understandable manner for the public. These displays created an environment for the preservation of some ancient animals and plants.
Additionally, the museum features a photo exhibition of paleontological fossil sites in Mongolia, showcasing dinosaur fossil sites such as Khuren Duh of Bayanjargalan soum of Dundgov province, Baishin Tsav of Khanbogd soum of Umnogobi province, Amtgai, Nemegt, and Khermen Tsav of Gurvantes soum of Umnugobi province, and Bugiin Tsav in Bayangobi of Bayankhongor province.
