Domestic flights in Mongolia are served by three companies – MIAT, Aero Mongolia, and Hunnu Air. Each companies operate Fokker 50 and Boeing-747 airplanes with a passenger capacity ranging from 24 to 360. The allowed baggage volume is 20kg, which includes hand luggage. Extra volume incurs an additional cost of 3000T. Children between the ages of 5 to 16 are charged half the fare, while children under 5 can travel for free.
The airfare for domestic flights is not fixed and is subject to change. This is because there are only two air companies operating in the country, which can’t keep up with the demand during the summer season. Therefore, airfare prices tend to rise during the summer and become cheaper in winter. It is advisable to purchase tickets as early as possible, as ticket reservations are only valid for 48 hours.
It is worth noting that flight schedules may be delayed or changed due to weather conditions.
