SUMMARY:Altan Ovoo Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Altan Ovoo Festival is held in Dariganga Soum in Sukhbaatar province. The men gather around a yellow ovoo on a volcanic cone at an altitude of approx. 1350 meters and sacrifice fat and milk products. The Naadam Festival of wrestling\, archery\, and horse racing are also held here. The women are only allowed to gather at another place below the summit. At sunrise\, they circle the mountain singing. \nThere is no specific date for the Altan Ovoo festival\, it varies and is held approximately every three years. If\, as a tourist\, you are interested in sporting events\, here is an opportunity to be much closer to what is happening than\, for example\, visiting the Naadam festival in Ulan Bator. \n  \n
