The Golden Eagle Festival Tour in Sagsai, Bayan-Ulgii province is a remarkable event that attracts numerous tourists to Mongolia every year. Mongolia is home to three distinct types of Eagle Festivals, two of which are held in Bayan-Ulgii province, while the other is located near Ulaanbaatar. This particular tour is designed to showcase the Golden Eagle Festival in Sagsai soum of Bayan-Ulgii province that takes place annually from September 13th to 14th. This festival is known for its traditional and authentic appeal, with fewer participants and less crowding compared to the Eagle Festival in Ulgii city.

Day 1. Arrival day.

Upon your arrival at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport, your friendly guide and driver will greet you and take you to the hotel to rest for a couple of hours before embarking on a city tour of Mongolia. The tour includes visiting Sukhbaatar Square, the National Historical Museum, Gandan Monastery, Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum, and Zaisan Hill Memorial Statue.

Day 2. Fly to Ulgii

After arriving in Ulgii city, your local driver will take you to a Russian van/Uaz-452. After having lunch in Ulgii City, we’ll visit the black market and some supermarkets to prepare some food and other essentials for the upcoming trip. Spend the night in a ger camp.

Day 3. Sagsai village. 

Head to Sagsay Village to visit and meet a local Eagle Hunter’s family who will be participating in the festival the following day. You’ll have the chance to learn about the Kazakh people’s culture and lifestyle and converse with the eagle hunter and his family. Spend the night in a ger.

Day 4. Eagle Festival’s first day

Visit the Altay Golden Eagle Festival near Sagsai village, which is the biggest annual festival for eagle hunters. Around 400 eagle hunters attend the festival every year, making it a national holiday of sorts. Spend the night in a ger.

Day 5. Second day of Eagle festival. 

We’ll witness the eagle hunters’ performances on horses, which is a unique and fascinating experience. Spend the night in a ger.

Day 6. Altai Tavan Bogd National Park

Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and enjoy the breathtaking natural scenery en route to the National Park. The surrounding snow-capped high mountains are truly majestic. Spend the night in a tent at the Gate of the National Park.

Day 7. Horseback riding and Climbing Malchin Peak

We’ll go horseback riding to the Base camp of Altai Tavan Bogd and climb the Malchin, one of the five peaks. We’ll spend the night in a tent at the base camp.

Day 8. Ulaankhus soum. 

Move to Ulaankhus soum, which boasts stunning high mountains and landscapes and is located halfway to Ulgii city. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 9. Ulgii-Ulaanbaatar /flight/

Continue driving to Ulgii city and have lunch before taking a flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival in Ulaanbaatar, you’ll be transferred to your hotel to rest a little before heading out to shop for some cashmere and souvenirs. Later, you’ll attend a Traditional Cultural Show and have dinner at a restaurant. Spend the night in a hotel.

Day 10. Departure.

You’ll be transferred to the Chinggis Khan International Airport for your departure.
