The Northern Mongolia Tour is a highly sought-after tourist destination that offers a unique and unforgettable experience to travelers. This tour takes you through various types of roads, including dirt roads, paved roads, high mountain passes, and extreme off-road terrains. Although it can be quite challenging, it is more comfortable than the Gobi when it comes to tenting.

With the Northern Mongolia tour, you’ll get to learn about Mongolia’s rich history and culture and discover different provinces every day. The itinerary includes visits to popular national parks such as Khustai, Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, Khovsgol Lake, and other natural resources in northern Mongolia.

Day 1. Arrival Day

Arrive and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, you’ll embark on a city tour that includes Sukhbaatar Square, the National Historical Museum, Gandan Monastery, Zaisan Hill, and a Traditional Cultural Show. Dinner at a restaurant.

Day 2. Khustai National Park

Head to the Khustai National Park after having breakfast in the morning. This park is known for its diverse wildlife, including elk, marmot, wolf, different types of birds, and wild horses like the Takhi/Prezhewalski Horse. We’ll spend the night in a ger camp.

Day 3. Kharkhorin 

Drive to Kharkhorin and see the famous Erdene-Zuu monastery from the Middle Ages and the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape. Spend the night in a ger camp.

Day 4. Tsenkher Hot Spa

Travel to Tsenkher Hot Spring, one of the biggest natural hot springs in Arkhangai province. This spring is known for its scalding temperature, which can reach 65-90 Celsius and the stench of hydrogen sulfide. The spring has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times and contains sulfur acid and flint, which have a positive impact on articulation, stomach issues, anemia, overfatigue, skin diseases, and diabetes. Spend the night in a camp.

Day 5. Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake & Khorgo Extinct Volcano Natural Reserve

Drive to Tariat Soum of Arkhangai province to see Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and Khorgo National Park, one of the biggest burnt volcano craters in the northern part of Mongolia. The volcano was active around 8000 years ago, and its crater depth is about 100 and 400 meters wide. The surrounding areas are covered with up to 50 meters of lava. You’ll go hiking around the lake and volcano, which offer incredible views. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 6. Jargalant Soum

Travel to Jargalant Soum of Khovsgol Province, which is known for its beautiful surroundings with high mountains and large forests. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 7. Moron City

Move to Moron City of Khovsgol province, which provides an enormous part of Mongolian forests and fresh water. You’ll see the beautiful high mountains with larch, pine, and spruce trees and Khovsgol Lake, also known as the Blue Pearl. Spend the night in a tent near the city.

Day 8. Khovsgol Lake

Travel to Khovsgol Lake National Park, which is known for its crystal-clear Khovsgol Lake. It is the second biggest freshwater lake in the world and contains around 1 percent of the world’s freshwater. The lake is 136km long and about 40 km wide surrounded by beautiful larch and pine trees and situated in the northern part of Mongolia. You’ll have the opportunity to take a picture with reindeer and yaks. There are many tourist camps, and they offer a lot of interesting activities for tourists. Spend the night in a ger camp.

 Day 9. Khovsgol Lake /Free Day/

We’ll have a free day at the camp. You can manage your day as you wish, and there are many activities available, such as horse riding, jet boating, hiking, visiting nomads’ families, swimming, and tasting traditional foods. Spend the night at the ger camp.

Day 10. Khutag-Undur Soum

Travel to Khutag-Undur Soum of Bulgan province, known for its diverse landscapes. The Khutag-Undur Soum area is mostly covered with forests, and the biggest and most beautiful Selenge River runs through its landscape. Spend the night in a tent.

Day 11. Amarbayasgalant Monastery

We’ll drive to Amarbaysgalant monastery, which was built in the early 18th Century and dedicated to St. Zanabazar, the first Bogd of Mongolia. It is said that there were over 6000 monks living in 50 temples. Unfortunately, the communists destroyed the monastery during the Great Revolution in the 1930s. In 1944, the monastery was protected by the state and rebuilt. Spend the night in the tent.

Day 12. Ulaanbaatar

Travel to Ulaanbaatar early in the morning and arrive in the afternoon. You’ll have time for shopping to buy some cashmere and souvenirs. Mongolian cashmere products are getting very famous in the world market due to their best quality and price. Spend the night in a hotel.

Day 13. Departure

You’ll transfer to the airport for your departure.
